Liberal Studies Announces First Academic Conference

On Decmeber 13, 2012, Fred Schwarzbach, the Dean of Liberal Studies, announced the first academic conference to be hosted by the Global/Liberal Studies Program, and called for volunteers to join the conference steering committee. The conference topic is secularism.

The steering committee will be chaired by Michael Rectenwald. The following faculty members have joined Michael on the committee: Emily Bauman, Sean Eve, Brendan Hogan, Luis Ramos, Mitra Rastegar, Martin Reichert, Anthony Reynolds, Minu Tharoor, Elayne Tobin, and Kyle Wanberg. George Levine, the Literary scholar, prolific intellectual, and Professor Emeritus at Rutgers University, has been instrumental in working with Michael Rectenwald to launch the conference, and will be an honorary member of the conference steering committee.

A call for papers will be issued soon, and a conference website will be established. Stay tuned for further announcements.
